What “Error Messages” Mean on This Scale
Mi Smart Scale 2 communicates problems in two main places:
-
On the scale display (short codes like L or OL)
-
Inside the companion app on Android (messages such as pairing/binding failures or sync issues)
This guide explains what each message usually means and what to do next.
1) Alerts on the Scale Display
A) Blinking “L” (Low Battery)
What it means
The battery level is low and the scale is warning you before it shuts down or becomes unreliable.
What to do
-
Replace all batteries with 3 new AAA (1.5V) batteries at the same time.
-
After replacing, place the scale on a hard, flat surface, then step on it once and let it wake up normally.
-
If the “L” keeps blinking:
-
Recheck battery orientation (+ / -)
-
Try a different set of batteries
-
Clean battery contacts if you see dust or mild oxidation (keep everything dry)
-
Why it matters
Low battery can cause unstable readings, random power-offs, or failed syncing even if Bluetooth is fine.
B) Blinking “OL” (Overload)
What it means
The scale is overloaded—weight exceeds its maximum capacity.
What to do
-
Step off immediately to protect the internal sensors.
-
Verify the load is within the scale’s capacity (up to 150 kg).
-
If “OL” appears even with a normal load:
-
Move the scale to a hard, flat floor (avoid carpets/soft mats)
-
Make sure all four feet touch the floor evenly
-
Try weighing a lighter object first to test
-
Safety note
Repeated overload can permanently damage the weighing mechanism and reduce accuracy.
2) App Messages on Android (Pairing, Binding, and Sync Problems)

A) “Bind/Pair Failed” (Device Can’t Be Added)
What it means
The app can’t complete the device binding process. This is usually caused by Bluetooth state issues, a stuck pairing session, or interference from another device/account.
Fix steps (recommended order)
-
Toggle Bluetooth OFF → ON on your Android phone.
-
Close the app completely (remove it from Recent Apps), then reopen it.
-
Restart your phone.
-
Move closer to the scale (within a few meters) and keep other Bluetooth accessories temporarily disconnected.
-
Try adding the device again from the app’s device-add section.
Pro tip
During pairing, wake the scale by stepping on it so the display turns on—pairing is more reliable when the scale is awake.
B) “Unable to Sync Data” (Measurements Don’t Appear in the App)
What it means
The scale recorded measurements, but the app didn’t pull them over Bluetooth.
Fix steps
-
Turn on Bluetooth and open the app first.
-
Wake the scale (step on it) so its screen lights up, then wait nearby.
-
Keep the app in the foreground while syncing (don’t let Android battery saver pause it).
-
If still not syncing:
-
Toggle Bluetooth OFF/ON
-
Restart phone
-
Reopen the app and try again near the scale
-
Why it happens
-
Bluetooth is OFF or unstable
-
App is running in the background and gets restricted by power saving
-
The phone is too far from the scale when the app tries to sync
C) “Device Not Found” / “No Connection”
What it means
Your phone can’t detect the scale at that moment.
Fix steps
-
Ensure the scale has power (no dead batteries).
-
Wake it by stepping on it until the display lights up.
-
Place the phone close to the scale and retry.
-
Disable aggressive battery optimization for the fitness app (common on some Android brands).
D) “Data Recorded, But Wrong User/Profile”
What it means
The scale and app try to match measurements to a user profile. If profiles are similar (close weight range) or guest mode is involved, the record can land in the wrong place.
Fix steps
-
Confirm the correct profile is selected in the app.
-
Separate profiles with similar weights by ensuring each user inputs accurate height/age and weighs consistently.
-
Avoid multiple people stepping on the scale in quick succession while one phone is syncing.
3) Quick Troubleshooting Flow (Fast Diagnosis)
Use this when you need a quick decision path:
-
Scale shows blinking “L”
→ Replace batteries first. Re-test. -
Scale shows blinking “OL”
→ Load exceeds limit. Reduce weight and re-test on hard floor. -
No alerts, but app won’t pair
→ Toggle Bluetooth → restart app → restart phone → try binding again with the scale awake. -
Pairing works, but data won’t sync
→ Open app + keep Bluetooth on → wake scale → stay close → check Android battery optimization restrictions.
4) When to Stop Troubleshooting
Consider additional support if:
-
“OL” appears with very light objects on a perfectly flat floor (possible sensor damage)
-
The display is dim/flickers even with new batteries
-
Pairing and syncing fail on multiple Android devices with fresh batteries
